AKAUN UTK PEMBANTU RUMAH

Bank account for maids
BY M.KRISHNAMOORTHY AND SIOW YUEN CHING
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 300,000 employers of domestic maids will soon have to open bank accounts in their maids' names and pay the salary into the accounts monthly.
With this, employers will not be allowed to hold the maids' salaries.
“There have been a lot of complaints by international agencies that employers were not paying foreign maids their wages,” Human Resources Minister Datuk Fong Chan Onn told The Star.
It will cover all employers of foreign and local maids, he added.
Dr Fong said the rationale for the inclusion of the clause were:
PROTECTION on payment of wages to maids;
ELIMINATE instances of employers keeping their wages; and
PREVENT cases of non-payment of wages.
“By making a clear-cut policy on this, domestic maids will be protected and they cannot claim that their wages were not paid,” he said.
The opening of bank accounts will be mandatory in the amendments proposed to the Employment Act, 1955, due to be tabled in Parliament next month.
The proposed clause under Section 57A, Wages of Domestic Servant, states:
“It will be mandatory for employers of a domestic servant to pay the wages of domestic servants into the domestic servant’s bank account.”
Currently, there is no stipulation in the Act requiring employers to pay their domestic servants' wages into a bank account.
The Malaysian Foreign Workers Association president Datuk Raja Zulkepley Dahlan said some illegal agencies did not pay maids and this move would prevent such cases.
Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) secretary general G. Rajasekaran supported the proposed change and said that it was aimed at safeguarding the domestic maids.
“The bank account will ensure that the maid receives the money,” he added.
Bank officer Tan Chow Sin, 51, said he had been doing this since the time he first had a maid and was comfortable with the arrangement.
“She will feel secure as she will be able to see her hard-earned money safe in her account, while my wife and I can sleep peacefully knowing that she won't run away,” he said.
Professional services manager P. Seran who has employed maids for several years said that with the banks now open for five days, it would be cumbersome for working employers to open the account, and withdraw and transfer the cash..

Malaysian Muslims to protest over Prophet cartoons Friday

Tue Feb 07, 06 03:05:42 PM
Oleh Harakahdaily Reporter
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 - Malaysian Muslims will march to the Danish mission here later this week in protest against the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, an opposition Islamic party official said today.
The gathering, to be held after Friday prayers, will be the first mass demonstration in mainly Muslim Malaysia since angry protests erupted in the Muslim world over the controversial cartoons.
"We appeal to all Muslims to participate in the protest. We demand that the government of Denmark and the newspapers offer an apology to Muslims," Nasharudin Mat Isa, PAS Deputy President of the Islamic Party (PAS), told Harakahdaily.
Denmark has been the chief target of Muslim fury as a Danish newspaper first printed the 12 caricatures of Mohammed last September. The cartoons have since appeared in newspapers in several Western countries.
Nasharudin said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang would lead Friday's march of more than 1,000 people from a Kampung Baru mosque.
"It will be a peaceful protest. We oppose any form of violence," he said, adding that the party would also submit a protest note to the Danish embassy.
"Their action has hurt the feelings of Muslims."

Karikatur Hina Nabi Muhammad (S.A.W)

Muslim cleric wants death for cartoonists

Mon Feb 06, 06 07:13:03 PM
Oleh AFP
LONDON, Feb 6 - Muslim cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed, banned from Britain for his radical views, called Monday for capital punishment for cartoonists who dare depict the Prophet Mohammed.
Speaking to BBC radio from Lebanon, where he now lives, Bakri claimed "everybody" now acknowledged that cartoons of the prophet which first appeared in a Danish newspaper in September were insulting.
"In Islam, God said, and the messenger Mohammed said, whoever insults a prophet, he must be punished and executed," he added. "This man (the cartoonist) should be put on trial and ... executed" if proven guilty.
In an apparent reference to Denmark, where the government has defended the cartoons on freedom-of-speech grounds, Bakri also said that if nations fail to put people on trial for insulting Mohammed, they must "face the consequences".
The global furore over the cartoons -- reprinted in several mainly European newspapers -- escalated over the weekend with mobs attacking the Danish embassies in Damascus and Beirut.
One of the cartoons depicted Mohammed wearing a turban with a bomb hidden inside. Muslims consider images of the prophet to be blasphemous.
Syrian-born Bakri, founder of the now-dissolved Islamist group Al-Muhajiroun, was banned from Britain in August last year after earning villian status in the tabloid press for his militant views.
On Monday he tempered his remarks by saying that Muslims must not kill anyone who insulted the founder of their faith "by their own personal, individual initiative".
"We are not saying ourselves to go there and start to look to him and kill him, we are not talking about that. We are talking about Islamic rules. If anybody insults the prophet, he will have to take a punishment," he said.

Adik Kakak Semua,

...betullah kata2 mantan PM..Melayu Mudah Lupa...

Book loan scheme to cover all by 2008
By DERRICK VINESH
KEPALA BATAS: The Education Ministry’s book loan scheme will be extended to all primary school pupils in the country by 2008.
The move is expected to cost the ministry several million ringgit.
Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said at present almost 90% of pupils received free books under the scheme.
“The scheme was initially meant for poor pupils.
“Last year we thought of extending the scheme to children of those employed in the Education Ministry and Education Department.

Hishamuddin chatting with students after presenting them with the PMR excellence awards in Kepala Batas on Sunday.“This increased the percentage to about 90%. So, now I just need to find the money to accommodate the other 10%,” he said at the Gemilang 2020 programme opening at Institut Latihan Perindustrian here yesterday.
Hishammuddin said it made sense to extend the scheme to all primary school pupils.
“But, we must also find a mechanism so that the rich families who benefit from the scheme will repay this deed in a different way.
“They must fulfil their social responsibility to assist those in need,” he said.
On a different matter, Hishammuddin said the ministry would no longer use the design and build method nor engage the services of independent consultants to build new schools.
“This is to avoid problems such as delays in land title changes and applications for certificates of fitness (CF).
“If the Public Works Department is willing to take over the construction of all school buildings, such problems can be reduced because it has the power to certify buildings,” he said.
Hishammuddin was commenting on SK Mutiara Perdana in Sungai Nibong, which has been operating for four years without a CF because of problems with the land title.
Later, he opened the “One Home, One Reading Corner” campaign at SK Padang Menora, Tasek Gelugor.
